What a Game Designer will do:

  • Understand consumer needs and design gameplay elements that will contribute to player satisfaction and enjoyment
  • Prototype (both digital and paper-based) with other game designers and programmers
  • Create project documents to ensure that gameplay intentions are understood
  • Attend playtests and be solution-oriented to any problems that are uncovered
  • Conceptualize and develop characters, rules, settings, and stories for new games
  • Follow industry trends and good practices

If you’re interested, you’ll need these skills or experiences:

  • 2+ years gaming industry experience 
  • Bachelor's degree in game design, computer science, or computer engineering
  • Enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, the gaming industry
  • Relevant certification in programming languages
  • Portfolio of sample projects
  • Being creative, imaginative, and original
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change
  • Work well under pressure and be able to meet deadlines
  • Effective at working autonomously and with a team
  • Ability to keep up to date with new developments and trends in the computer games market

Additional skills or experiences that will move you up in the stack-ranking for considerations are:

  • Experience working on online FPS games
  • Experience working on multiplayer co-op games
  • Project management training
  • Familiarity with and the ability to communicate information visually
  • Experience with Confluence, Jira, Experience with Unreal Engine, Unreal Editor, and Blueprints
  • Strong understanding of how to build gameplay systems around AI
  • Critical thinker, who is both curious and resourceful
  • Exceptional ability to 0rganized workflows, and understands the difference between  opportunities vs. capabilities 
  • Understanding of, and ability to, balance between project objectives with business objectives
