New World Interactive is looking for our next senior systems designer to work on our unannounced project. You will collaborate and take direction from the design director and work on a multidisciplinary team designing, balancing, and tuning the systems that create authentic, tactical experiences in our games.

Summary of Job

The Senior Designer is responsible for the creation and production of game features and balances. Well organized and driven, the Senior Designer communicates feature and balance requirements in order to help ensure the game remains on vision. The Senior Designer helps all disciplines create an enjoyable player experience.

What a Senior Designer will do:

  • Collaborate with the design director and lead designer to own and implement the vision for the balance, systems, and economy
  • Guide the balance, tuning, and pacing of game features by clearly communicating desired intentions
  • Create and continually iterate on the documentation of systems-related requirements and processes
  • Actively facilitate and encourage discussions and brainstorming on systems design
  • Constantly evaluate and iterate on game mechanics and systems to improve player experience
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices
  • Be an advocate for the player (w/ a data-driven approach)

If you are interested, you’ll need these skills or experiences: 

  • Experience designing, implementing, and tuning features and balances
  • Can critically approach, breakdown and explain key variables of game mechanics
  • Understanding of FPS gameplay loops and what makes the genre fun
  • In-depth knowledge of spreadsheets, flow charts, and simulations
  • Knowledge of Unreal, Unreal Blueprints, or similar experience
  • A solid understanding of player motivations, expectations, and emotions
  • 5 years in game development, with at least 2 years of experience on feature and/or balance design
  • Passion for all game types: board games, RPGs, and video games with an emphasis on first-person shooters

Bonus Points: 

  • Shipped at least one AAA FPS title
  • College diploma in Game Design or equivalent - undergraduate degree is a bonus
  • Strong knowledge of the Unreal Blueprint System
  • Ability to contribute to the tools and pipelines required to design and tune the game systems effectively
